KP is the remedy against parasites on the koi (at low temperatures)
Potassium permanganate (KP) for the treatment of almost all common parasites in a pond: Trichodina, Trichodinella, Chillodinella, Costia.

Also effective against some (starting) bacterial infections.

Please note when using Potassium permanganate:

• Only administer on the advice of a veterinarian or experience expert;
• Wear gloves. KP can cause a brown discoloration that is difficult to remove.
• Be careful with spills, KP causes stains that are difficult to remove;
• Dangerous if used carelessly, KP is a very irritating agent;
• Avoid eye contact, KP is capable of causing permanent blindness;
• Use safety glasses when mixing and dosing KP. Also wear mouth protection;
• Overdose irrevocably leads to the death of the entire fish population;
• KP attacks all metals with the exception of stainless steel;
• Do not use in combination with other medicines (combining is at your own risk). Despite our care, we cannot accept any liability if death occurs after the use of Potassium Permanganate.

When not to use KP:

• When the pond water is warmer than 27 degrees Celsius;
• When the fish is gasping for air;
• When the pond cannot be adequately aerated;
• When an oxygen-devouring medication has taken place;
• When there is insufficient circulation in the pond
• When the pond content is not accurately known;
• When the water quality is not in order (eg low GH/KH or measurable ammonia/nitrite);
• When no bleaching liquid (hydrogen peroxide, NPC or BioX) is available;
• When you cannot monitor the fish during the treatment period.

For general treatment with Potassium Permanganate:

Weigh KP accurately. Calculate the pond volume and stay within a 10% margin. Aerate the pond well.
Dissolve KP well in a bucket of lukewarm water and distribute it evenly over the pond. KP works well in cold water. The colder the water the safer, cold water has a greater ability to dissolve oxygen.

• First clean the filter well and try to remove as much dirt as possible;
• add 2 grams per 1000 liters of water;
• Record the time of administration. The water should be purple for 6 hours from this time;
• If the color changes from purple to brown within these 6 hours, add 1 gram per 1000 liters of water;
• If the color changes from purple to brown again within these 6 hours, add 1 gram per 1000 liters a third time. The water should remain purple for 6 hours from the time noted;
• If the water turns brown within 6 hours after three doses, stop the treatment and repeat after 2 days;
• Stop the treatment after 6 hours. Change 15% water.

Decolorization/Neutralization of the water can be done in different ways:

This also stops the treatment immediately. (so keep enough on hand to be able to use immediately in case of overdose)

Filter:
We recommend treating the filter along with it, but keep in mind that the filter will lose much of its biological effect. You can also choose to let the filter rotate in itself, a small pump is sufficient for this, extra aeration is recommended. Keep in mind that if you do not treat the filter, the chance of re-contamination is greater. Switch off the UV lamp during the treatment. Remove any zeolite present during the course of treatment.

Fishing
By adding KP it is possible that fish will flash, rub or jump. The parasites become active as a result of the treatment with KP, which causes temporary irritation in your fish. Sturgeons cannot tolerate treatment with KP and should be removed during treatment.
